AFTER releasing her self-titled debut album, Soul Diva from “The Voice of the Philippines” Klarisse de Guzman is ready for another stage in her music career – her first solo concert.
The concert entitled “The Voice of Klarisse de Guzman: Live in Concert” is scheduled on Aug. 29, 8 p.m., at Teatrino, Promenade Mall.
Klarisse de Guzman is not new to competition. After finishing second on “The Voice of the Philippines,” she is ready to face a bigger challenge – making it on her own with her self-titled debut album under MCA Music. The diva-in-the-making brought something new to the table this time, expressing her personal singing style that is different from how she started.
Amateur singing contests was Klarisse’s playground and training ground. Celine Dion’s “All By Myself” was her sure win piece and gets added “luck” by competing with a slice of ginger on her tongue the entire time. Her strategy got her enough competitions and confidence to try the big leagues.
She finished 2nd in “Batang Kampeon” at nine years old, a place higher than International singing sensation Charice who got 3rd prize. The driven 12-year old joined “Star for a Night” next but got eliminated during the semi-finals by a now household name, Sarah Geronimo.
Klarisse came to a point that she lost her confidence in singing due to successive rejections and fatigue from competing. She pursued her studies instead at De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde and learned music inside the classroom. She didn’t know that her thirst for performance and competition was still there.
As if it was destined, she passed every screening for “The Voice” and coincidentally got her former rival Sarah G as coach. “Sabi n’ya (Sarah Geronimo) sa akin, ‘Nauna lang ako. ’Andito ako para dalhin ka sa panahon mo (to become big),’” Klarisse shared.
The battles were tough but the 22-year old belter managed to finish strong and bagged second place. And this time, she was just more fired up to finally make her dreams come true.
Finally, Klarisse is on her way to becoming the artist she was destined to become via her self-titled debut album now out under MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines) in CDs at Astroplus and Odyssey outlets and digital downloads via spinnr.ph and iTunes.
Her debut single, “Di Kayang Pilitin” – written by Klarisse herself, is way different from her usual contest pieces – less birit, and more soul. “Gusto ko po talagang maging singer-songwriter tapos medyo soul ang music ko.”
In her debut solo concert, “The Voice of Klarisse de Guzman: Live in Concert,” Klarisse will be performing songs off the album and will be joined by guests MCA Music artists Nyoy Volante and “The Voice” finalist Paolo Onesa. Tickets are available at Ticketworld (ticketworld.com.ph.).
